Jim Gardner started his handyman business “Jim of All Trades” after graduating from UC Berkeley with an Anthropology degree and realizing that the construction field was his true calling. Licensed as a General Contractor in 1983, Jim did primarily small remodeling projects- hiring his first employee in 1985. In the early 90’s we began doing foundation replacement, drainage systems, and earthquake retrofitting. We found that structural repair was really our niche, and we began to focus on becoming the best in this part of the business. Jim began doing a lot of coursework and training as part of this process, becoming a Certified Graduate Remodeler through NAHB, a Certified Structural Repair Specialist though NAWSRC, and a Building Performance Contractor through CBPCA and Build-it Green. In the last decade we began doing complete basement renovations and remodels, and have continued our focus on structural repair, along with some general remodeling.

We believe that the best construction projects are a close collaboration between the design professionals, the contractor and his workers, and the homeowner. When we meet we will discuss your needs and come up with a budget-driven plan. We will then help you from conception through completion; utilizing or own engineers and design professionals to control design costs. By designing with the budget in mind we minimize Change Orders and cost –overruns. It is truly a team effort, and one that creates superior results.
